What counts as a resident discount?
Municipal resident I.D. programs require a city or course-issued credential. City resident rates use a named city boundary, while a local ZIP rate uses an expressly published postal area. No verified county-resident program was found in the current catalog research.
Military rates depend on service eligibility. Loyalty cards, players cards, memberships, subscriptions, and promotional rates depend on purchase or participation. They may reduce prices, but they are not resident discounts and do not appear in the verified comparison above.
Qualification and documentation
Use the narrowest rule the operator publishes. A government ID alone may be enough at one course, while another may require a lease, property-tax document, insurance record, utility bill, ID.me verification, or a physical resident card.
Property ownership is not universally interchangeable with residency. The City of San Diego expressly accepts living in or owning a residence; Coronado separately defines ownership or six-month residency. Other programs in this guide only claim what their official pages state.
City of San Diego municipal program
One $25 annual City Resident I.D. Card supports Torrey Pines, Balboa Park, and Mission Bay. Applicants must live in or own a residence within the City Council-defined districts; businesses do not qualify. The City booking page provides the purchase and renewal path.
All tee times are initially quoted at the nonresident rate. Present the valid card at check-in to receive the resident adjustment. For resident reservations 8–90 days ahead, the card is also required at reservation.

Online tee times release at 7 p.m. daily. The published daily limit is two tee times and eight players per reservation holder. Booking fees are nonrefundable and do not apply toward green fees; carts and club rentals are separate.
Booking fees are not green fees
A booking fee pays for the reservation window or reservation processing described by the operator. It must not be added to a resident-rate table as though it were part of the green fee. Coronado, National City, Torrey Pines, Balboa Park, and Mission Bay each publish different fee or deposit treatment.
Where an official source omits a fee, this guide says “not published” instead of assuming zero. The Crossings resident page currently contains conflicting nine-day and 30-day window language, so its active window should be confirmed before planning.
Published labels that need more evidence
Goat Hill Park publishes an “SD Resident” fare without defining City-versus-County geography or documentation. Emerald Isle publishes an “Oceana Resident” fare without defining boundaries or an application process. Both are documented in the catalog review below, but neither is promoted as a verified resident discount here.

Does a San Diego address qualify everywhere?
No. Each program uses its own geography. City of San Diego, Coronado, Chula Vista/Bonita, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido, and National City rules are not interchangeable.
Are resident prices automatically applied online?
No. Some systems initially quote nonresident pricing, and several programs require verification, a specific portal, or proof at check-in.
Is a players card or membership a resident discount?
No. Those programs depend on purchase, age, service status, or participation rather than residence. This guide keeps them separate.
Does Play Golf SD issue cards or book the resident rate?
No. Play Golf SD is read-only. Application, verification, rate adjustment, and booking happen through the official course or government system.
