What twilight actually means
Twilight is a time and rate category. It usually starts later during longer summer days and earlier in winter, but each course publishes its own schedule.
Night golf means actual play using course lighting. A Twilight tee time does not by itself mean the course has lights or that there will be enough daylight to finish the intended round.
City municipal Twilight and night golf
Torrey Pines publishes seasonal 2026 Twilight start times, while the City Junior Golf Ticket uses 'beginning at Twilight' as the eligible start at Torrey Pines North and South and Balboa Park 18. Check the dated City schedule rather than treating one start time as year-round.
Mission Bay has lighting infrastructure, but the City's July 15, 2026 notice says night course play is suspended until further notice. That is a current suspension, not a statement that Mission Bay can never offer night golf.

How to search afternoon windows
In Play Golf SD's search, set the earliest-time filter to early afternoon and leave the latest open. That surfaces recently checked late-day openings at select courses - the times most likely to fall inside a twilight window.
Freshness matters even more late in the day, since afternoon tee times can change quickly.
Where late rounds work best
Mission Bay's shorter layout is forgiving on daylight; Balboa Park's central location makes an after-work round realistic; Coronado's evening light over the bay is its own reward when a late opening appears.
Check the official rate card
Play Golf SD shows availability signals, not prices. Confirm the current twilight cutoff and rate on the official course site before you book.
